Almeria and the Western
Much has been said and written about the close relationship between Almeria and western films in the 1960s. Almeria, Clint Eastwood, Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone.
City, Actor, Director and Composer, embarked on a project in 1964, low budget and low expectations, but ended up being a total success that produced the leap to fame of both: “For a handful of dollars.” Thanks to that, the following year began filming the second film of this trilogy, “For a handful of dollars more,” but whose commercial name was “Death had a price.” This time Lee Van Cleef joint the cast.
To close the circle of these wonderful western cinema pieces, Leone concluded in 1966 with one of The best works of western history: “The good, the bad and the ugly.”
Maybe we should thank these 3 movie monsters for their bet in Almeria, but it is clear that without our wonderful landscapes, they may never have made the leap to fame …
